These guidelines are practical information for parents to help prevent threats and make the Internet useful for their children.

Rule 1.  Be attentive to the actions of your children on the "worldwide web":

• Do not send children to “free-float” on the Internet. Try to actively participate in the child's communication with the Internet, especially at the stage of development.

•  Talk with your child about what he learns new for himself using the Internet in order to prevent the threat in time. 

 

Rule 2.  Inform your child about the opportunities and dangers of the network:

• Explain to your child that there are both “good” and “bad” people on the Internet as in life. Explain that if a child has experienced negativity or abuse from another Internet user, they need to tell their loved ones about it.

• Teach your child to look for the information he needs and check it, including with your help.

• Teach your child to be careful about downloading paid information and receiving paid services from the Internet, especially by sending SMS, in order to avoid losing money.

• Make a list of useful, interesting, safe resources your child can use and encourage them to use them.

 

Rule 3.  Choose a convenient form of monitoring your child's online presence:

• Install the necessary software on your computer - parental control solution and antivirus.

• If your child is a primary school student and is often alone at home, limit your child's online time.

• If the computer is used by all family members, install it in a location that is accessible to all family members, not in the child's room.

• Create different accounts on your computer for adults and children. This will help not only keep your child safe but also preserve your personal data.

• Monitor the resources your child visits regularly. Simple computer settings will allow you to be aware of what information your child is viewing.

 

 Rule 4.   Regularly improve your computer literacy to know how to keep children safe:

• Take advantage of convenient opportunities to improve your computer and Internet literacy, for example, attending courses, reading special literature, consulting with experts.
