The Free Mobile Antivirus You Are Using Can Be a Fake

Should You Install an Antivirus on a Smartphone?

Does Free Antivirus Really Protect?

The question is more complex than one might think. Some free antiviruses do indeed protect your machines, but not all of them. As with everything, you can imagine, some software is more efficient than others.

free mobile antivirus

Note, however, that all the antiviruses that we will quote in this article have been tested and found to be sufficiently reliable and effective. So there are antivirus's out there that don't really protect you, but we won't cover them in this article.

It is still important to note that the vast majority of antiviruses that work on a freemium model in their free version are as effective as the premium versions. The difference will be made especially in the functionalities integrated into the software.

Beyond these features, virus detection and removal always works the same way, since the virus database (which contains all the viruses) is common to the paid version. Understand by this that Avast, Avira or AVG will detect the same threats for both users of the free version and for subscribers.

On Android, the danger mainly comes from the files that you may have to install. In theory, apps on the Play Store are already scanned and verified by Google. The risk that they contain malicious code is therefore low (but not impossible, it has happened in the past).

Avast antivirus

Finally, let's not forget that an antivirus, whether paid or free, is never 100% reliable. This is an automatic detection carried out following an analysis of your suspicious files. There may therefore be false positives and undetected viruses - some of which are too recent to have already been integrated into the virus databases of antiviruses.

Using an antivirus on an Android smartphone, is it useful?
It is obvious that any device connected to the Internet is today subject to potential attacks. Our mobiles contain a lot of sensitive and private data, which makes them a prime target for hackers. However, it is also good to remember that, overall, our Android smartphones remain rather secure.

Remember also that after several months or years, many Android smartphones are no longer updated by the manufacturers. Therefore, they can no longer take advantage of the security patches.

Avast was previously considered a bit too heavy and sometimes invasive. Fortunately, since the last versions, the software is much lighter. We remember in particular these unwanted messages reminding us of the obligation to renew an activation key (even for the free version)

Very often we say to ourselves that, if it's free, it's because there is a problem with the economic model and something is hidden from us. However, this is not the case with most antiviruses, and even less with Avast. This free version called "freemium" does not certainly have all the features of a premium version, but it is largely sufficient for the general public.

Kaspersky Free Antivirus

This antivirus has long been considered one of the most effective software. However, in recent years, the news has not played in its favor: Kaspersky is indeed Russian software. Although it is still as efficient as ever, some governments and users have developed a certain mistrust of it, which explains its lesser success.

While previously only available in a paid version, Kaspersky now also offers a free offer. This freemium version goes straight to the point: it simply offers real-time protection and a scan of your files. For the rest of the features, you will have to go to checkout.

AVG Antivirus Free

This is a great classic that we no longer present. If in fact, the threat detection rate is a little lower than what the competitors offer, AVG remains a very good free antivirus.

Known in the world of free antivirus for several years, this version of AVG has the merit of being rather complete. Without having to pay a single penny, you will end up with interesting and effective protection. Special mention to the very easy to use interface that will suit everyone.

Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition
Offering a free offer is a real way to recruit users, with the aim of subsequently making them subscribers to the paid version. For Bitdefender Antivirus Free, the basic protection will once again be the same as the premium version.

It is quite simply one of the most effective protections on the market. You will be able to benefit from real-time protection as well as the possibility of launching a scan on your machine. Another strong point, the phishing detection rate is also very high. This makes it easy to detect malicious URLs and fraudulent sites.

This free version is limited to personal use: you are therefore not allowed to use Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition on your work machine or in a company park. Either way, we highly recommend Bitdefender for its reliability and responsiveness.

Panda Antivirus

It's finally the little one who goes up! Panda Free Antivirus is the nice surprise of this test. Thanks to a simplistic interface (with large icons), real lightness and exemplary efficiency, this antivirus ticks all the right boxes! Special mention to its rather effective phishing detection feature.

Beyond the interface and virus detection, Panda Antivirus will work even without the internet (this is not the case with all antiviruses). Handy if you ever plug a USB key into your computer and want to analyze it even if you don't have a connection handy.

For a free version, Panda is really complete and efficient! It even allows itself the luxury of integrating a VPN offering 150MB / day of bandwidth. It's not much, it's true, but it's still useful for quick protection, especially when connecting to a public Wi-Fi network.

Avira

If we had to cite a light and efficient antivirus, which does not require paying more attention than that and which runs perfectly in the background: it looks like Avira! Finally, nothing has really changed in years, except that the effectiveness of the antivirus has improved even more over time.

Protegent360 Free Antivirus

By installing effective anti-malware software, or simply, free antivirus, you can protect your mobile devices from the virus.  PCs, laptops, computers, tablets and smartphones. Carefully designed antivirus like Protegent360 Antivirus detects and prevents virus attacks on PCs, while Protegent360 free antivirus for Android provides antivirus protection for Android smartphones and tablets.
